Visiting A Patient & Lodging Information

Visiting loved ones in the hospital is important for the health of our patients and their visitors. It is also important to recognize certain policies have been created to protect our patients while at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center.

Visiting Hours and Policies

General Care Areas 11 AM - 8:30 PM

Behavioral Health Services - adults and seniors

6 PM - 8:30 PM (Monday - Friday)

1 PM - 8:30 PM (weekends and holidays)

Behavioral Health Services -adolescents

only immediate family visitors

5:30 PM - 7:30 PM (Tuesday and Thursday)

12:30 PM - 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM (Saturday, Sunday and holidays)

Acute Care Area

only immediate family visitors

6 PM - 8:30 PM (Monday - Friday)

1 PM - 8:30 PM (weekends and holidays)

Critical/Intensive Care

only immediate family visitors

No one under 14 years of age. Generally, visitation is limited to no more than two people at one time. To allow for patient care needs, visiting hours are unavailable between the hours of 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM and 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM.

Surgery

Visitors waiting during your surgery may use the special waiting area on the second floor, where they will be kept informed of your progress.

Additional Area Visiting Hours

Our Women's Center, Children's Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Care Unit and Behavioral Health Units are secured units, 24 hours a day. For visiting guidelines, please check with the nursing staff.

Internet Access

Avera McKennan provides Internet access in many of our waiting rooms and common areas. You can check your email and browse the web without having to leave your loved ones.

Waiting Rooms

These are located on each unit and next to elevators on each floor. For surgery waiting areas, check with the nurse for the area most convenient for your guests.

Visitor Parking

Free parking is available in two parking ramps connected by skywalk to the hospital and other campus buildings. Courtesy valet parking is available at the front entrance of the hospital. View our parking information to learn more.
