Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Processing

stem cell areaThe Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center bone marrow-transplant program blood bank processing facility processes about 120 peripheral blood hematopoietic progenitor cells (stem cells) collections per year. In this process, adult circulating stem cells are selectively and painlessly removed from a patient and frozen for future use in patients with terminal conditions.

The "stem cell" program is accredited by the Foundation of the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and is the only FACT accredited program in the region. Leslie Cooper MLS(ASCP)CM,SBBCM is an award winning specialist who is in charge of the technical aspects of our program in conjunction with Dr. Jacqueline Choate and Dr. Vinod Parameswaran. The professional laboratory staff is specially selected for this complex testing and processing area.
