Breast Cancer Consult Clinic

Expert second opinions concerning your breast health

Kathleen L. Schneekloth, MD

Being diagnosed with breast cancer introduces you to many options and decisions. The decisions that lie before you are crucial to your health. To help you chart this course, the Avera Breast Center offers second consultation services through the Breast Cancer Consult Clinic. It’s like a second, third and fourth opinion – all in one visit!

Our expert team of physicians and staff at this specialty clinic are here to help you decide which treatment options are right for you. Furthermore, these important decisions are all discussed in one office visit, so you don’t have to juggle multiple appointments.

Here's how the clinic works

After you’ve received your breast cancer diagnosis, call to schedule an appointment with our clinic. Your case will be reviewed by our radiologists and pathologists who have a special interest in breast care. Prior to your appointment, your information is presented at our weekly breast center conference where physicians and specialized professionals review your case and work together to determine the optimal care plan options for you. During your consultation visit, you will meet with a medical oncologist, a radiation oncologist and a surgeon. These breast health experts will become your personalized team to help answer your questions and outline treatment options. A treatment plan will then be developed by you and your team. A copy of these recommendations will be given to you to share with your primary care physician or surgeon for care and continued treatment.

All the second consultation services you need in one visit:
  • Surgery
  • Medical oncology
  • Radiation oncology

During your visit, you may also meet with other specialists. They include:
  • Licensed social worker to discuss social and emotional support
  • Lymphedema specialists for assessment and therapy
  • Genetics counselor (this is especially helpful for high-risk patients who have a family history of breast cancer)
  • Clinical-trials experts who can give you enrollment information
  • Breast health navigator
  • Dietitian to discuss nutritional concerns or questions
Other services available:
