Our History

In 1989, a new $1.8 million facility was constructed by North Central Health Services of Spearfish, S.D. EHCC was part of North Central Health Services until 1993, when that organization merged with Lutheran Health System. In 2000 Lutheran Health System engaged in a merger with Samaritan Health in Arizona, and the corporate name was changed to Banner Health System. Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, S.D., purchased the long-term care center in 2002 and the name was changed to Avera Eureka Health Care Center.

Changes improve look, energy-efficiency

The center continues to be one of the most attractive facilities in the area and boasts of a high percent of occupancy. Numerous projects have been completed in the last decade to create a more energy-efficient facility. A remodeling project redesigned the nurses’ work area and replaced hallway carpet and wallpaper.

Avera Eureka Health Care Center employs nearly 75 staff members. The management team brings a great deal of experience in long-term care, which serves as a strength for the organization.
